The new Elantra Hybrid will feature a 1.6-liter GDI Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine. It delivers a total system output of 139 horsepower and up to 195 lb-ft of torque.
Hyundai announced its releasing a hybrid version of the Elantra during an official unveiling of its compact sedan for the 2021 model year, which will offer more than 50 MPG estimated combined fuel economy.
The new Elantra Hybrid will feature a 1.6-liter GDI Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, according to Hyundai. Elantra Hybrid’s permanent-magnet electric motor delivers 32 kW powered by a lithium-ion-polymer battery with 1.32 kWh of capacity positioned under the rear seats. It delivers a total system output of 139 horsepower and up to 195 lb-ft of torque.
Meanwhile, the 2021 Elantra SE, SEL, and Limited that are powered by 2.0L MPI Atkinson Cycle engine generates 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque.
The seventh generation Elantra will also have a longer wheelbase, wider stance, and lower roofline, according to the automaker. The 2021 Elantra gains 2.2 inches in overall length and 0.8 inch in its wheelbase, and the overall width is increased one inch. The overall height also dropped 0.8 inch.
The new Elantra will feature Hyundai’s Blue Link Connected Car System, which uses embedded telematics to allow drivers to remote-start their vehicle and locate their vehicle using the MyHyundai smartphone app. Blue Link also includes cloud-based navigation, which offers free up-to-the-minute traffic information and POI searches.
Interior highlights include a 10.25-inch information-display cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment system. New technology features are highlighted by an optional Digital Key allows Elantra to be unlocked, started and driven without a physical key via a smartphone. The 2021 Elantra also features wireless Android Auto and Apple Car connectivity.
Available Hyundai SmartSense Safety Features include forward collision-avoidance assist; lane keeping assist; lane following assist; high beam assist; and a driver attention warning system.
