Eaton introduces new technologies for China EV market
Eaton has revealed new technology solutions from its eMobility business unit in China targeted at electric vehicle applications in that market.
With more than 60% of global EV sales in China, Eaton (which has production capabilities in the country) is also planning further expansion.
“Our understanding of the unique needs of vehicle customers, and our experience with hybrids and EVs in both China and other regions, gives us a distinct advantage versus suppliers exclusive to the EV market in China,” said Jeff Lowinger, president of Eaton’s eMobility business.
“China is already the largest EV market, and sales continue to increase due to government subsidies, tighter emission standards and NEV sales mandates, all to help reduce environmental pollution. We’re excited to offer our eMobility technologies in China at a time of rapid growth in the region.”
The business unit specializes in three key areas for electric and hybrid vehicles: intelligent power electronics, power systems and advanced power distribution and circuit protection. The eMobility unit was formed in 2018 by combining products, expertise and global manufacturing capabilities from Eaton’s Electrical and Vehicle businesses to strengthen global capabilities and deliver new electrification products and solutions to passenger car, commercial vehicle and off-highway customers.
Eaton is currently supporting electric medium-duty trucks and buses around the globe with its EV transmission solutions. In China, Eaton is engaged in development with multiple manufacturers, including Wanxiang, Zhongtong and others. The transmission solutions, the company claims, offer increased performance in terms of range, grade performance, acceleration and efficiency. The compact, lightweight transmissions also enable a significant reduction in motor size for the same application, enabling reductions in motor costs and overall weight. In addition, a smaller battery pack can be used as the transmission improves the energy efficiency of the vehicle.
Eaton also provides high-voltage, fast-acting fuses in nearly 50% of global electrified cars, circuit protection in six of the top 10 EV platforms and power electronics on a leading European BEV platform.
