Port Trucking Company Replaces Diesel with Natural Gas Trucks
Total Transportation Services announced that it is replacing its entire diesel trucking fleet with natural gas trucks to reduce emissions and plans to fuel the new vehicles with renewable natural gas.
TTSI has purchased 40 heavy duty trucks powered by compressed natural gas engines with the aim of reducing emissions by as much as 90%. Before purchasing the new vehicles TTSI’s analysis and testing of the Cummins Westport trucks found they met the company’s busy drayage operation needs. The trucks will be operated by TTSI’s Heavy Load Transfer (Port Drayage).
The announcement was made in conjunction with the non-profit Coalition for Clean Air to raise awareness for natural and renewable gas and help improve air quality by reducing greenhouse gas emission in ports region of Los Angeles.
A quarter of TTSI’s investment in natural gas trucks was funded through the California Air Resources Board’s California Climate Investments initiative, a statewide program that puts billions of cap-and-trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
“If every one of the 14,000 trucks that call at these ports were changed to natural gas, it would have a major impact on air quality in the region,” said Vic LaRosa, president of TTSI. “We hope other haulers will follow our lead and make the switch as well.”
