Verizon Connect Lists 10 Risky Driving States
Verizon Connect has identified the 10 most risky and 10 safest states for driving sources from federal statistics and telematics data from its fleet customers. The release comes in June, because it’s National Safety Month, according to the company.
The telematics company identified North Dakota as the most risky state for driving, followed by New Mexico, Montana, Mississippi, and Wyoming. The list is rounded out by Oklahoma, Alabama, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Louisiana.
Massachusetts has been named the safest state for driving, followed by Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and Washington. Other safer states include Minnesota, Hawaii, Connecticut, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
The data also showed that safety is improving among commercial vehicles. Harsh driving such as harsh braking, acceleration, and hard cornering among its customers has significantly declined. Harsh driving incidents have fallen 22% from 2017 to 2018. This year is on track to be even lower, according to the company.
For its survey, Verizon Connect used U.S. Department of Transportation data and Census Bureau statistics.
