Through his \u201cBuy American\u201d executive order, President Biden promises to upgrade the federal fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) made in the US.<\/b><\/p>\n

President Joe Biden announced in a Jan. 25 speech<\/a> regarding his \u201cBuy American\u201d executive order that his administration is making a commitment to upgrade the federal fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) made in the U.S.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe federal government\u2026owns an enormous fleet of vehicles, which we\u2019re going to replace with clean, electric vehicles made right here in America by American workers, creating millions of jobs \u2014 a million autoworker jobs in clean energy \u2014 and vehicles that are net-zero emissions,\u201d President Biden said.<\/p>\n

According to the latest Federal Fleet Report<\/a>, the fleet consists of over 645,000 vehicles. No formal timeline for the shift has been revealed as of yet.<\/p>\n

Biden promised during his campaign to invest $400 billion<\/a> over 10 years in clean energy research and innovation in an effort to create a stable source of demand and to help accelerate the U.S.\u2019 industrial capacity to produce clean vehicles and components.<\/p>\n

The plan set forth during his presidential campaign also aims to accelerate R&D on battery technology for use in electric vehicles, with a focus on increasing durability, reducing waste, and lowering costs.<\/p>\n
