Walmart’s ambitious announcement to achieve zero-carbon operations by 2040 signals it is looking to electrify its truck fleet as the next step in the company\u2019s green evolution.<\/p>\n

Walmart laid out a three-fold plan to completely cut the company\u2019s emissions, which included electrifying all of its vehicles, including long-haul trucks, by 2040. It also plans to use wind, solar and other renewable energy sources to 100% power its facilities by 2035, and transition to low-impact refrigerants for cooling and electrifying its heating equipment for its stores, clubs, and data and distribution centers by 2040.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to play an important role in transforming the world\u2019s supply chains to be regenerative. We face a growing crisis of climate change and nature loss and we all need to take action with urgency,\u201d said Doug McMillon, Walmart president and CEO. \u201cThe commitments we\u2019re making today not only aim to decarbonize Walmart\u2019s global operations, they also put us on the path to becoming a regenerative company\u2013one that works to restore, renew and replenish in addition to preserving our planet, and encourages others to do the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

The announcement precedes Walmart\u2019s annual Sustainability Milestone Summit, which will be held virtually on Tuesday, Sept. 22, during Climate Week\u2019s HubLive<\/a>.<\/p>\n
