A community based cycling organisation in Glasgow is using a fleet of e-cargo bikes for last mile\u00a0deliveries in the city.<\/p>\n

SoulRiders is a community-led cycling organisation and it will be using an intital five e-cargo bike fleet\u00a0as part of its Revolutionise service to help deliver food to some of the city\u2019s most vulnerable communities.<\/p>\n

A Covid-19 distribution site is also being enabled to support the elderly, isolated and vulnerable with essential supplies.<\/p>\n

The e-cargo bikes have been funded by \u00a3140,615 from the \u00a320 million Scottish Power Energy Networks\u2019 Green Economy Fund.<\/p>\n

Rashid Khaliq, chief executive, SoulRiders, said:\u00a0\u201cWe believe our project will reduce the number of vans and lorries on our streets and provides a solution to many issues including traffic and pollution in cities.<\/p>\n

“It’s basically green urban logistics.<\/p>\n

“The aim is to provide transport means for local communinties so they can get food, medical supplies and goods using e-cargo bikes.”<\/p>\n

Khaliq is planning to eventually switch to solar power to charge all of the e-cargo bikes off the grid.<\/p>\n

Glasgow has said,\u00a0like Oxford<\/a>, it is on a mission to become the UK\u2019s first net zero emissions city.<\/p>\n

So far,\u00a033 projects have been awarded funding from SP Energy Networks<\/a>\u00a0across Central and Southern Scotland.<\/p>\n
