Photo: Volvo Trucks<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Volvo Trucks North America deployed its first pilot\u00a0VNR\u00a0Electric\u00a0truck\u00a0in Southern California\u00a0as part of the Volvo LIGHTS\u00a0(Low Impact Green Heavy Transport Solutions)\u00a0project. The first\u00a0pilot\u00a0Volvo\u00a0VNR\u00a0Electric\u00a0truck will operate\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0Volvo Trucks North America\u00a0TEC Equipment\u00a0dealership\u00a0in Fontana, California.\u00a0The zero-emission truck will transport local parts between the TEC Equipment dealerships in Fontana and La Mirada.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"incontent02Ad\"><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Volvo LIGHTS is a collaboration with the South Coast Air Quality Management District and 13\u00a0other organizations to develop a blueprint to\u00a0 introduce battery-electric trucks and equipment into the market at scale.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cVolvo Trucks is proud to lead the way in the\u00a0sustainable\u00a0electrification of freight movement. Photo: Volvo Trucks<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cThis experience in\u00a0designing, planning, and installing high-power chargers for electric trucks\u00a0has taught us\u00a0how critical it is to engage a variety of stakeholders early on,\u201d said Aravind Kailas, advanced technology policy director for Volvo Group North America. \u201cThe Volvo LIGHTS project has provided valuable insight into how to build realistic project timelines. Despite the unavoidable delays due to the COVID-19 situation, we\u2019re proud the\u00a0team has been able to continue moving the project forward.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">More About the Volvo LIGHTS Project<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Volvo LIGHTS project was made possible by an award to South Coast AQMD of $44.8 million from CARB as part of California Climate Investments. CCI is a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy and improving public health and the environment \u2013 particularly in disadvantaged communities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">As a result, South Coast AQMD contributed $4 million from the Clean Fuels Fund and awarded a $45.6M contract to the Volvo Group to design and implement the project.\u00a0 Volvo and its partners have promised no less than $45.7M matching contribution to increase the total project value to over $91M for South Coast AQMD to administer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Volvo LIGHTS team also includes partnerships with Rio Hondo College and San Bernardino Valley College to create electric vehicle repair and service technician programs to prepare the region\u2019s workforce for the introduction of battery-electric freight trucks.
