Integrated Powertrain Project in the Works from TomTom, Daimler, Bosch<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Trucks fitted with Daimler\u2019s Predictive Powertrain Controls use TomTom\u2019s ADAS Map and Bosch\u2019s electronic horizon to automate driving functions on highways.<\/p>\n

Location\u00a0technology developer TomTom announced that it is collaborating with Bosch and Daimler on Daimler\u2019s Predictive Powertrain Control, an advanced driver assistance system, or smart cruise control, for commercial vehicles.<\/p>\n

According to TomTom, the joint project is focused on Daimler\u2019s Predictive Powertrain Control. Trucks fitted with Daimler\u2019s Predictive Powertrain Controls use TomTom\u2019s ADAS Map and Bosch\u2019s electronic horizon to automate driving functions on highways \u2013 and, in Europe, on inter-urban roads too. The company said the system leads to a fuel reduction of up to 5% per vehicle, which delivers lower CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n

Predictive Powertrain Control actively controls engine, brakes, and automated transmission. Now, with the use of TomTom\u2019s ADAS map, the system is familiar with the topography, curvature, speed limit (including truck-specific speed limits) and traffic signs, meaning it can respond in a manner that delivers the most fuel-efficient performance.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Bosch\u2019s electronic horizon is used to integrate knowledge of the road ahead into the driving strategy of the new Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor in Europe. It provides required map data per ADAS protocol in a new and innovative way allowing relaxed, safe and efficient driving, according to the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new PPC technology is using the TomTom ADAS Map to assist with driving functions on interurban roads \u2013 which not only delivers a safer, more comfortable ride but also significant fuel savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions,” said Antoine Saucier, managing director, TomTom Automotive.<\/p>\n
