The\u00a0CO\u2082 Insights tool was developed by Swiss retailer Migros and Empa, a research institute for materials science and technology, and relies on location data and services from Here Technologies.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Location data provider Here\u00a0Technologies announced a new commercial fleet analytics tool at CES on Jan. 5. The tool\u00a0predicts the amount of carbon dioxide (CO\u2082) emissions per route, considering factors such as vehicle and fuel type, traffic conditions, and the road networks\u2019 physical attributes, including topography, curvature, slope and elevation, according to a news release.<\/p>\n

CO\u2082 Insights also recommends the most appropriate commercial vehicle with the most appropriate engine (diesel, electric, bio-gas, or hydrogen) to produce the least CO\u2082 for any given route, helping fleets\u00a0transition to CO\u2082 neutral.<\/p>\n

CO\u2082 Insights \u2013 under the name of M Opex Tower \u2013 was developed by leading Swiss retailer Migros and its strategic partner Empa<\/a>, relying on Here’s location data and services. Migros has used the tool to investigate the environmental impact of its own fleet and drive the transition from diesel vehicles to alternative fuel options such as biogas, electric, and hydrogen. The retailer built its CO\u2082 analytical tool with the Here\u00a0Routing<\/a> API, enabling\u00a0fleet managers to deliver optimized navigation routes incorporating the attributes of the roadway, legal, and physical restrictions and adjusted road hierarchy and topology.<\/p>\n

CO\u2082 Insights is certified by myclimate<\/a>, an organization that helps calculate and offset emissions. For this offset, the CO\u2082 calculation takes into account the energy consumed for transportation (tank-to-wheel) and emissions from fuel production (well-to-tank). Indirect emissions from vehicle manufacturing, maintenance and disposal, as well as the emissions produced to build the infrastructure used by the vehicle are also considered. The CO\u2082 calculation is certified according to DIN EN 16258 and ISO 14040.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to\u00a0offering\u00a0our customers the fastest and shortest routes,\u00a0we are now in a position to\u00a0predict the amount of\u00a0CO\u2082\u00a0produced by any given\u00a0type of\u00a0commercial truck on any given route,” added\u00a0J\u00f8rgen Behrens, chief product officer at Here Technologies.\u00a0“We can even identify which combination of truck model and fuel is least polluting. We are proud to see our road attributes powering\u00a0CO\u2082\u00a0Insights in support of building\u00a0CO\u2082\u00a0neutral fleets. This is an important contribution to help the EU reach its objectives of climate neutrality by 2050.”<\/p>\n

CO\u2082 Insights will be free of charge for evaluation purposes until March 31, 2022, for Here’s customers.<\/p>\n
