{"id":13022,"date":"2022-01-09T11:08:45","date_gmt":"2022-01-09T10:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/advancedfleetmanagementconsulting.com\/eng\/?p=13022"},"modified":"2022-01-09T11:08:45","modified_gmt":"2022-01-09T10:08:45","slug":"brightdrop-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/advancedfleetmanagementconsulting.com\/eng\/2022\/01\/09\/brightdrop-2\/","title":{"rendered":"BrightDrop Announces Walmart, FedEx Orders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><i><em>Photo courtesy of GM\/BrightDrop<\/em><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>The retail giant plans to use its EV vans for its InHome delivery service, reaching 30 million U.S. households by the end of the year.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">GM&#8217;s last-mile delivery company BrightDrop announced thousands of new van orders from two leading Fortune 500 companies on Jan. 5 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.\u00a0Walmart has been added to BrightDrop&#8217;s customer base, while\u00a0FedEx expands its partnership with the EV van company, according to a news release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Walmart is reserving\u00a05,000 of BrightDrop\u2019s EV600 and smaller EV410 electric delivery vans for its last-mile delivery network and to supports its goal of operating a zero-emissions logistics fleet by 2040.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">FedEx has\u00a0reserved\u00a0priority production for 2,000 electric delivery vans over the next few years. This\u00a0adds to FedEx\u2019s initial reservation of <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.automotive-fleet.com\/10158181\/brightdrop-delivers-first-ev600-vehicles-to-fedexhttps:\/\/www.automotive-fleet.com\/10158181\/brightdrop-delivers-first-ev600-vehicles-to-fedex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">500 BrightDrop EVs<\/a> from last year. In addition, FedEx is planning\u00a0to add 20,000 more in the years to follow, subject to further negotiations and execution of a definitive purchase agreement, the release notes.\u00a0FedEx also\u00a0unveiled plans to expand its\u00a0testing\u00a0of\u00a0BrightDrop\u2019s\u00a0EP1 electrified container to\u00a010 markets\u00a0beginning\u00a0in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">BrightDrop says these moves demonstrate growing momentum for\u00a0electric delivery solutions.\u00a0The EV600, built on <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.automotive-fleet.com\/10147334\/gm-announces-ultium-charge-360-a-new-fleet-charging-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GM\u2019s Ultium Platform<\/a>, was formed in 20 months prior to initial deliveries to FedEx, \u2014 which the company says makes it\u00a0the fastest vehicle to market in GM\u00a0history.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure class=\"article-img\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><img class=\"wrapImageCMS aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/fleetimages.bobitstudios.com\/upload\/automotive-fleet\/content\/news\/2022-01\/brightdrop-fedex-janweb-__-720x516-s.jpg\" alt=\"FedEx originally ordered\u00a0500 BrightDrop EVs and has now upped its reservations to 2,000 vans. - Photo courtesy of GM\/BrightDrop\" \/><\/span><figcaption class=\"caption-description\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">FedEx originally ordered 500 BrightDrop EVs and has now upped its reservations to 2,000 vans. <em>Photo courtesy of GM\/BrightDrop<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cBrightDrop\u2019s mission is to decarbonize the world\u2019s deliveries. Walmart will hire more than 3,000 associate delivery drivers and equip them with an all-electric fleet of delivery vans. BrightDrop says the electric vans may begin hitting the road for Walmart deliveries as early as 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cFedEx remains full speed ahead in taking the next steps to electrify our pickup and delivery vehicle fleet, which is a critical component in our ambitious goal to achieve carbon-neutral operations globally by 2040,\u201d says Smith. \u201cWith the collaboration and innovative technology of companies like GM and BrightDrop, we will continue to meet the world\u2019s increasing transportation needs in more environmentally sustainable ways for our customers, shareholders, and communities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">FedEx has set a target to electrify its entire parcel pickup and delivery fleet, envisioning adding hundreds of thousands of medium electric delivery vehicles over the next two decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">BrightDrop also announced the completion of a second pilot with FedEx in New York City. Its first pilot in Toronto saw a 25% increase in package deliveries per day when using the EP1 electric container. In this second pilot, the EP1 allowed FedEx Express couriers to increase package deliveries by 15% per hour, remove one on-road vehicle from the delivery route, and cut delivery vehicle curbside dwell time in half on routes in a high-density, vertical urban environment.
