{"id":11800,"date":"2021-07-13T13:48:37","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T11:48:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/advancedfleetmanagementconsulting.com\/eng\/?p=11800"},"modified":"2021-07-13T13:49:24","modified_gmt":"2021-07-13T11:49:24","slug":"zero-emissions-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/advancedfleetmanagementconsulting.com\/eng\/2021\/07\/13\/zero-emissions-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Monaco to send first zero emissions polar exploration vehicle to Antarctica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">High-performance electric mobility company Venturi has unveiled the world\u2019s first ever zero emissions polar exploration vehicle, which will be deployed in December at the Belgian Princess Elisabeth research station in Antarctica.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Venturi, which started out in 1984 as a French automaker but has since been transformed into a Monaco-based high-performance vehicle manufacturer, has been working on a zero emissions polar exploration vehicle since 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It was after a returning from a trip to Antarctica in 2009 that Monaco\u2019s Sovereign Prince, Albert II, remarked to Venturi\u2019s President Gildo Pastor that Antarctic research stations had no environmentally friendly or non-polluting vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Prince Albert II Foundation asked Venturi to design a zero-emission solution for the Antarctic able to carry passengers and equipment to and from the region\u2019s scientific research sites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Venturi went on to design three successive versions of such a vehicle, including the original prototype which <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/thedriven.io\/2018\/12\/04\/this-pure-electric-vehicle-will-explore-antarctica-pollution-free\/\">was unveiled in late-2018<\/a> and which was then tested in the Telegraph Creek region of Canada\u2019s far north in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Last week, in advance of World Environment Day, Venturi presented the latest model to Prince Albert II, which will be heading to Belgium\u2019s Princess Elisabeth research station in Antarctica in December, to begin operations from \u00a0December 7.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cWith the Venturi Antarctica, scientists are getting an efficient, easy-to-handle vehicle with very good performance,\u201d <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.venturi.com\/en\/news\/venturi-antarctica-the-first-zero-emissions-polar-exploration-vehicle\/\">said Gildo Pastor<\/a>, President of Venturi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cThey will be able to carry out their research in optimum conditions, without polluting sites where the quality of analyses needs to be accurate down to the last molecule. style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Antarctica polar exploration vehicle \u2013 unimaginatively named \u2018Antarctica\u2019 \u2013 has been able to navigate the dramatic technical constraints set to be imposed on a vehicle working in one of the planet\u2019s most inhospitable regions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Sacha Lakic, a designer with whom Venturi has worked closely for many years, tackled the technical constraints which focus on the vehicle\u2019s thermal insulation, the size of the battery, and the chassis\u2019 tubular structure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Antarctica is also the result of meeting versatility and comfort for the vehicle\u2019s occupants, and with its fold-down bench seats is able to carry up to six people along with equipment, and even a second battery to extend the vehicle\u2019s initial range of 50 kilometres.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Boasting two 60kW electric engines and a 52.6kWh battery capacity, the Antarctica has a range of 50-kilometres and can operate in temperatures as low as -60\u00b0C and is also able to recharge from 2 to 18 hours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The 50-kilometre range will be naturally affected by load and terrain, and in response to one Twitter user Venturi explained that \u201cRange can be different according to the types of rolling resistance (ice or fresh snow, obstacles, climbs, flats\u2026), it is thus difficult to give you a precise answer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The company assured that, \u201cat the moment, the vehicle has validated 50 km of autonomy on road and without trailer,\u201d and added that, \u201cIf we add a trailer, and if this one is on skis and that the vehicle runs on ice, the autonomy should be approximately the same one.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In addition to being introduced to the Antarctica-bound model of the vehicle he had originally envisioned, Prince Albert II also received the original prototype vehicle which he drove in the vehicle\u2019s testing phase in Canada in March
