The Self-Driving Coalition<\/a>, which works with lawmakers, regulators, and the public to realize the safety and societal benefits of autonomous vehicles (AVs) has added\u00a0 Aurora and Embark to its board of directors. Both Embark and Aurora became members in 2020.<\/p>\n

The current Board includes Ford, Volvo and Waymo, and the broader Coalition brings together a wide variety of top AV companies including Argo AI, Cruise, Kodiak, Lyft, Motional, Nuro, Uber, TuSimple and Zoox.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs two of the top companies advancing the broad spectrum of use cases for autonomous driving technology, the addition of Embark and Aurora to the Board signifies the Coalition\u2019s continued commitment to fully realize the wide range of safety, mobility, and economic benefits AVs have to offer,\u201d Board Chair David Quinalty, said.<\/p>\n

Embark has worked closely with truck OEMS to develop standardized self-driving components and the flexible interfaces necessary to integrate its AV technology, and will test its product with fleets including AB InBev, Bison Transport, Mesilla Valley Transportation, and Werner Enterprises.<\/p>\n

\u201cAurora and Embark have exemplary track records in working with federal, state and local stakeholders to implement AV policy solutions that will bring safety and societal benefits to the public,\u201d Ariel Wolf, general counsel to the Coalition, said. \u201cTheir addition to the Board will enhance our efforts to turn self-driving technology\u2019s transformative potential into a reality for the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n

In March, Aurora\u00a0entered a long-term partnership with Volvo Autonomous Solutions<\/a>\u00a0to integrate\u00a0Aurora Driver<\/a>\u00a0sensors and software onto Volvo’s on-highway trucks.\u00a0Aurora also reported\u00a0<\/a>trucks with its solution can complete a 1,500-mile route from Dallas to Los Angeles in under 24 hours.<\/p>\n

\u201cDelivering the benefits of self-driving safely, quickly, and broadly has been Aurora\u2019s mission since we started building the Aurora Driver,\u201d\u00a0Melissa Froelich, director of government relations at Aurora, said.\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to being on the Coalition\u2019s Board as we advocate for self-driving technology that will save lives, increase access to transportation, and ensure goods are delivered quickly and efficiently.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAutonomous trucks offer an opportunity to dramatically improve safety, grow the U.S. economy, improve transportation efficiency and transform how freight moves,\u201d Jonny Morris, head of public policy and communications at Embark, said. \u201cEmbark is excited to join the Board and continue to work alongside the Coalition to promote the broad deployment of autonomous trucks on American roadways.\u201d<\/p>\n
