To date, Neste has provided more than 1.5 billion gallons of renewable diesel to California businesses and cities, Neste officials said.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Renewable diesel and biodiesel are playing a major role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector in California, according to newly released <a href=\"https:\/\/ww3.arb.ca.gov\/fuels\/lcfs\/dashboard\/dashboard.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">data from the California Air Resources Board on California\u2019s Low Carbon Fuel Standard Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Diesel Technology Forum, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of diesel engines, fuel, and technology, points out that low-carbon transportation fuels powering internal combustion engines delivered the state\u2019s biggest reduction in transportation-related sources of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Biodiesel and renewable diesel fuel are the biggest carbon-cutting technologies from the transportation sector in the report, edging out ethanol and beating the benefits of electrified cars, trucks and buses by three to one, notes the forum.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"article-img\"><img class=\"wrapImageCMS aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/fleetimages.bobitstudios.com\/upload\/trucking-info\/content\/news\/2021-05\/image_47728722341621349919195_1621349919056-__-720x516-s.png\" alt=\" - Graph: Diesel Technology Forum\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption-description\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Graph: Diesel Technology Forum<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cumulatively, over the period of 2011-2020, California\u2019s consumption of biodiesel and renewable diesel fuels accounted for 43% (over 32 million tons) of all greenhouse gas eliminated from the transportation sector, while battery-electric transportation options accounted for only 13% (10 million tons), according to Allen Schaeffer, executive director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dieselforum.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Diesel Technology Forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Availability of low carbon-biobased diesel fuel is expanding.\u00a0CARB estimates that biobased diesel fuel has grown from about 16 million gallons in 2011 to nearly 1 billion gallons in 2020.\u00a0Renewable diesel fuel is one the fastest-growing low-carbon transportation fuels sold in the state, notes DTF.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These are fuels derived from waste feedstocks, including vegetable oils and animal fats, to yield very low carbon transportation fuels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Traditional fuel producers such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marathonpetroleum.com\/Newsroom\/Company-News\/Marathon-Petroleum-to-Proceed-with-Conversion-of-Martinez-Refinery-to-Renewable-Fuels-Facility\/#:~:text=Marathon%20Petroleum%20Corporation%20(NYSE%3A%20MPC,a%20renewable%20fuels%20manufacturing%20facility.&amp;text=The%20Martinez%20facility%20is%20expected,to%20full%20capacity%20in%202023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marathon<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/investor.phillips66.com\/financial-information\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/2020\/Phillips-66-Plans-to-Transform-San-Francisco-Refinery-into-Worlds-Largest-Renewable-Fuels-Plant\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Phillips66<\/a>\u00a0have announced investments to retool petroleum refineries to produce renewable diesel fuel, in addition to existing large renewable diesel providers such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truckinginfo.com\/tags?tag=Neste\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Neste<\/a> and Renewable Energy Group. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.truckinginfo.com\/10141635\/loves-cargill-partner-to-expand-renewable-diesel-production\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Love\u2019s, Cargill and their affiliates recently announced a joint venture<\/a> to produce and market renewable diesel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stratasadvisors.com\/Insights\/2020\/06112020LCFS-RD-Investment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Energy analysts estimate<\/a>\u00a0that announced capacity from these announcements would equate to nearly 3 billion gallons of the fuel produced annually, or about as much petroleum diesel fuel consumed in California in 2019.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"article-img\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img class=\"wrapImageCMS aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/fleetimages.bobitstudios.com\/upload\/trucking-info\/content\/news\/2021-05\/image_66354850351621349929891_1621349930697-__-720x516-s.png\" alt=\" - Graph: Diesel Technology Forum\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption-description\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Graph: Diesel Technology Forum<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRelative to other strategies, today the switch to biobased diesel fuel is a cost-effective solution that allows municipal and private fleets to generate big climate benefits at least cost by using existing assets like fueling infrastructure and diesel engines,\u201d said Schaeffer in a news release.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For example:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oaklandca.gov\/news\/2019\/city-of-oakland-drives-environmental-progress-with-new-renewable-diesel-model#:~:text=In%202015%2C%20the%20City%20switched,priced%20similarly%20to%20petroleum%20diesel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">City of Oakland<\/a>\u00a0was an early adopter of renewable diesel fuel.
