{"id":10249,"date":"2021-03-14T18:58:39","date_gmt":"2021-03-14T17:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/advancedfleetmanagementconsulting.com\/eng\/?p=10249"},"modified":"2021-03-14T19:00:54","modified_gmt":"2021-03-14T18:00:54","slug":"nfi-industries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/advancedfleetmanagementconsulting.com\/eng\/2021\/03\/14\/nfi-industries\/","title":{"rendered":"NFI Industries electrifies fleet through Volvo LIGHTS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company has introduced VNR Electric models to its Southern California fleet while expanding its on-site charging infrastructure.<\/p>\n<div id=\"content-body-21157351\" class=\"page-contents__content-body\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lightsproject.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Volvo LIGHTS<\/a> project, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfiindustries.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NFI Industries<\/a> has introduced Volvo VNR Electric Class 8 trucks into its transportation fleet, as well as electrified its yard trucks and forklifts at its warehouse facility in Chino, Calif.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, the company has installed on-site charging infrastructure for both its growing fleet of electric vehicles and employees\u2019 personal vehicles, paired with solar panels to capture renewable electricity and on-site energy storage to bolster resiliency. Combined, these initiatives help lay the groundwork to integrate electric vehicles into the company\u2019s Chino drayage operations \u2014a fleet which will total more than 65 electric heavy-duty vehicles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBy critically evaluating the viability of electric trucks for their real-world, commercial operations, NFI is truly using the lessons learned through the Volvo LIGHTS project as a blueprint for fleet electrification,\u201d said Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America. \u201cWe are proud to partner with NFI as their bold leadership helps provide fleets industry wide with the knowledge needed to commercially scale zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a partner in the Volvo LIGHTS project, NFI began piloting two Volvo VNR Electric trucks in September. The Volvo VNR Electric trucks join NFI\u2019s fleet of more than 4,500 heavy-duty tractors. Based out of their Chino distribution campus, the Volvo VNR Electric trucks travel 100-mile regional distribution routes. NFI will receive an additional two Volvo VNR Electric trucks in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/504342359\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><center><\/center><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNFI has opted to take a leadership role in electrification because we believe it&#8217;s the right thing to do. It\u2019s in the fabric of who we are as an organization,\u201d said Bill Bliem, senior vice president of fleet services at NFI. \u201cNFI\u2019s executive team is extremely excited to be a partner of the Volvo LIGHTS project, because we know that together, we can get to where we need to be in our sustainability initiatives and drive the supply chain industry forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To install and maintain the charging infrastructure needed to support the electric trucks and equipment, NFI worked closely with Volvo Trucks, Southern California Edison, Greenlots, ABB, Core States and the City of Chino in order to upgrade the facility\u2019s power supply and install two 150 kW chargers. The chargers will utilize Greenlots\u2019 SKY software to effectively balance the electricity demand from the trucks, equipment, existing facilities and the electricity grid.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With support from the Volvo LIGHTS project, NFI has recently deployed two electric Kalmar Ottawa yard tractors, completing a 100% replacement of all of NFI\u2019s yard trucks operating in Southern California\u2019s Inland Empire with zero-emission, battery-electric models\u201427 in total.
