Smith,\u00a0Chairman and CEO, FedEx Corp.\u00a0\u201cThis goal\u00a0builds on our longstanding commitment to sustainability throughout our operations, while\u00a0at the same time\u00a0investing in long-term,\u00a0transformational solutions for FedEx and our entire industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Key\u00a0steps\u00a0toward reaching\u00a0the carbon-neutral goal\u00a0include:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-=\"\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Vehicle\u00a0<\/b><b>Electrification.<\/b>\u00a0By 2040,\u00a0the entire FedEx\u00a0parcel\u00a0pickup and delivery (PUD)\u00a0fleet will be\u00a0zero-emission\u00a0electric vehicles. This will be accomplished through phased programs to replace existing vehicles. For example, by 2025,\u00a050% of FedEx Express global\u00a0PUD\u00a0vehicle purchases will be\u00a0electric, rising to 100%\u00a0of all purchases\u00a0by 2030.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-=\"\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Sustainable Customer Solutions<\/b><b>.<\/b>\u00a0FedEx will work with customers to offer end-to-end sustainability for their supply chains through\u00a0carbon-neutral\u00a0shipping offerings and sustainable packaging solutions.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-=\"\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Sustainable\u00a0<\/b><b>Fuels<\/b><b>.\u00a0<\/b>FedEx will continue to invest in alternative fuels to reduce aircraft\u00a0and vehicle\u00a0emissions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-=\"\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Fuel Conservation and\u00a0<\/b><b>Aircraft\u00a0<\/b><b>Modernization.\u00a0<\/b>FedEx will build on its successful FedEx Fuel Sense initiatives designed to reduce fuel consumption in\u00a0its\u00a0aircraft. Since 2012,\u00a0the\u00a0FedEx Fuel Sense and\u00a0Aircraft\u00a0Modernization programs have saved a combined 1.43 billion gallons of jet fuel and avoided over 13.5 million metric tons of\u00a0carbon dioxide (CO2)\u00a0emissions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-=\"\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Facilities.\u00a0<\/b>FedEx will continue efforts to make its more than 5,000 facilities worldwide more sustainable through continued investments in\u00a0efficient\u00a0facilities,\u00a0renewable energy,\u00a0and other energy management programs.<b>\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"4\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-=\"\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><b>Natural Carbon Sequestration.<\/b>\u00a0FedEx\u00a0funding will\u00a0help to\u00a0establish\u00a0the Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture at Yale University to\u00a0support applied research into\u00a0natural carbon sequestration solutions.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">FedEx has earmarked $100 million for the\u00a0Yale\u00a0Center for Natural Carbon Capture to accelerate research into methods of carbon sequestration at scale, with an initial focus on helping to offset greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to current airline emissions. The center will catalyze interdisciplinary research across the natural sciences and engineering\u00a0in an effort to\u00a0accelerate\u00a0this work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201cAddressing climate change is a complex challenge that demands urgent action, and natural carbon capture strategies will be one key part of that action,\u201d said Dr. Ingrid C. \u201cIndy\u201d Burke, the Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. Dean of the Yale School of the Environment. \u201cThrough the creation of the\u00a0Yale\u00a0Center for Natural Carbon Capture, we aim to develop measurable carbon capture strategies to help offset carbon emissions globally.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Center researchers will develop methods that build on natural carbon storage systems, including biological ecosystems and the geological carbon cycle, improving, where possible, how quickly carbon can be absorbed, how much can be contained,\u00a0and how long it can be stored.
